Our consultant Petri Uusitalo received his PhD in the autumn of 2020. Petri graduated from Luleå University of Technology in Sweden, which is one of the most prestigious universities in Petri’s field of research in international comparison. The dissertation examined the use and management of resources in industrialized house-building (Uusitalo, 2020) to discover the secrets of a successful company.
Petri has worked in various companies in expert and management positions and has focused especially on developing companies’ activities in the manufacturing industry. He is also an experienced researcher, lecturer and trainer who has coached hundreds of future and already working experts, project managers and business leaders.
Our point of view
With the help of international research and strategies that have been proven to work in practice, Petri’s Doctoral Research produced new information about the secrets of a successful company, in addition to the knowledge previously gathered. In particular, the study highlighted that it is not enough to look at the current situations, but history also matters.
“The basic prerequisite for a successful company is to know its own history and how it has developed and how resources have been used, developed and managed. The company’s development path is often forgotten, in which case the desired progress cannot be achieved as the company’s development may stop over time due to the limitations built into the company.”
The dissertation research also showed that the stagnation of a company’s development often manifests itself as resource bottlenecks in various operations. Once the most critical resources for the company’s operations have been identified, they should be harnessed for more efficient use, which will reduce or eliminate the impact of bottlenecks. Effective resource management has direct positive effects on the company’s result, carbon footprint and occupational safety, and it also promotes the utilization of the circular economy. Monitoring, measuring and further developing the measures taken should also not be forgotten, as they guarantee sustainable development.
